Webelos Camp is a Big Success

Camp Comer, Mentone, AL-  123 Webelos and 70 adults gathered at Camp Comer for four days of fun, adventure, and trainingIt has been a number of years since GAC has run this program, but based on the reaction of the boys and their leaders, this will be an annual event.  The boys got a taste of what it is like to be
in a Boy Scout PatrolHighly motivated youth and young adult staff members from both Camp

Comer and Camp Sequoyah ran the program adult leaders had a chance to assist, take a selection of adult leader training, or just get to know other leaders better.
The boys program included archery, BB guns, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and of course a variety of Webelos advancement activities.  The activities were fast paced, despite a number of weather adjustments.  The meals in the dining hall were also great and the were well fed.  When I ask a group of three Webelos I if they wanted to come back next year, there was not even a slight hesitation as three hands shot up with words or "I do" or "Me, me."
Plans are underway for next year's Webelos Encampment, which once word gets out can be expect to at least double if not triple in attendance.  The plans also include a large selection of adult classes and possible even an OWLS class.  SO stay tuned and make plans to attend next year.  Click on the picture above to see more photos.
